Mercy Johnson Okojie, popularly known as Mercy Johnson for short, was born on August 28, 1984. She is a Nigerian actress,  film director, and producer. Mercy Johnson had her primary school education in Cross Rivers State and thereafter, she attended the Nigerian Naval Secondary School in Port Harcourt, Rivers State for her secondary school education.  

Meanwhile, after completing her basic education, she auditioned for a role in the movie titled The Maid which was just a glimpse of how talented she is.  She subsequently featured in other movies including Hustlers, Baby Oku in America, and War in the Palace which all gave her positive acclaim and recognition as one of Nigeria’s talented actresses and filmmakers.

Early Life 

Mercy Johnson Okojie, a renowned Nigerian professional actress, was born in Lagos State on August 28, 1984 to Daniel Johnson, a former naval officer, and his wife Elizabeth. She hails from Okene in Kogi State, situated in the middle belt region of Nigeria. 

As the fourth child in a family of seven, Mercy began her educational journey in Calabar, Cross River State, where she started her primary education. Due to her father’s naval career, the family relocated to Lagos State, and she continued her primary education at the Nigerian Navy Primary School. 

For her secondary education, Mercy attended Rivers State Secondary School and later transferred to the Nigerian Navy Secondary School in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

Career 

After completing her secondary education, Mercy Johnson auditioned for a role in “The Maid” and went on to appear in several other films, including “Hustlers,” “Baby Oku in America,” and “War in the Palace.” Her breakthrough performance in “Live to Remember” earned her the Best Supporting Actress award at the 2009 African Movie Awards. 

She also received the Best Actress award at the 2013 Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards for her role in the comedy film “Dumebi the Dirty Girl.” In recognition of her popularity, Mercy Johnson was listed as Google’s most searched Nigerian celebrity in 2011 and 2012. In 2017, she was appointed as the Senior Special Assistant to Yahaya Bello on entertainment, arts, and culture.

Despite her success, Mercy Johnson faced a brief ban from acting in 2013 due to her high salary demands. The ban, which also affected other prominent Nollywood stars, was lifted in 2014 after she apologized to the movie marketers and producers. Mercy Johnson made her debut as a film producer with the historical drama “The Legend of Inikpi,” showcasing her versatility and talent in the entertainment industry.

Personal Life 

Mercy Johnson is married to Prince Odianosen Okojie also known as Prince Odi. Prince Okojie is a Nigerian businessman and politician who is best known as the husband of the award-winning actress Mercy Johnson. 

He was born in Uromi, Edo State, Southern Nigeria, and is a descendant of the Okojie royal family. He is a real prince from Uromi, Southern Nigeria. Together, both couples have four (4) beautiful kids; Purity, born in 2012; Henry, born in 2014; Angel Onosetale, born in 2015 and Divine-Mercy Ehinomen Okojie, born in 2020

In October 2019, Mercy Johnson inked a lucrative endorsement deal with Chi Limited’s Prime brand, Hollandia Evap Milk, becoming the face of the brand.
