Early Life

Overton was raised in Wilbraham, Massachusetts. Following her graduation from Minnechaug Regional High School in 1997[1], she pursued her studies at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York City. She successfully completed her education, earning the prestigious Charles Jehlinger Award, the highest honor bestowed by the academy.

Career

She has showcased her talent in off-Broadway performances, regional Shakespeare productions, and various TV shows.

Her national television debut came in 2000 when she portrayed Rainn Wilkins on All My Children for several months. In 2002, she made a triumphant return to the theater scene on Broadway, joining the original stage cast of The Graduate as an understudy for multiple roles.

Eventually, she took over the role of Elaine Robinson from Alicia Silverstone, sharing the stage with Kathleen Turner and Jason Biggs.

In 2008, she collaborated with her husband, Judson Pearce Morgan, to write, direct, produce, and star in The Collective.

Additionally, she portrayed Christie Monteiro in the 2009 film adaptation of the popular fighting game series Tekken. Her notable TV appearances include the role of werewolf Rikki Naylor in the HBO series True Blood and her co-starring role as Ann in “In My Sleep.”

In 2016, she landed the lead role of Vanessa Helsing in the Syfy television series Van Helsing.

Reviewer Todd Mason of TV Guide praised Kelly Overton’s performance as Andrea Barton in the Numbers episode “Hollywood Homicide”, stating that she excelled in her small role.

In his review of The Collective, Joshua Tanzer commended Overton’s directorial debut (with husband Judson Pearce Morgan), describing it as beautifully shot and well crafted.

Additionally, Farley Elliott of LAist expressed admiration for Overton’s captivating performance in the film, which she also helped to write, and highlighted her directing skills, stating that viewers truly want to see her succeed.

Personal Life

Overton tied the knot with fellow actor Judson Pearce Morgan in March of 2004. Their daughter was born in 2011. It was revealed at San Diego Comic-Con 2017 that Overton was expecting during the filming of the second season of Van Helsing. Her second daughter was born in July 2017. Overton shared the news of her son’s birth in August 2019.
