Lagos State Government Urges LASU Staff to Suspend Ongoing Strike
This call was made by the Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Tolani Sule, via a statement released by the ministryโs Director of Public Affairs, Mamud Hassan.
Sule pleaded for calm and mutual understanding, assuring that the state government remains committed to the development of LASU and the well-being of its staff and students. He urged the leadership of the Joint Action Committee (JAC)โcomprising ASUU-LASU, SSANU-LASU, NAAT-LASU, and NASU-LASUโto reconsider their position and resume dialogue with the government.
โDespite the growing demands on government resources and the unique challenges of running a megacity like Lagos, we have continued to prioritize tertiary education. With collaboration, trust, and understanding, we can jointly find a lasting resolution that serves the best interests of all parties,โ Sule stated.
The government emphasized that the indefinite suspension of academic and administrative activities is detrimental to LASUโs academic calendar and poses risks to studentsโ futures.
While acknowledging the unionsโ welfare-related concerns, the ministry confirmed that it had received formal communication from JAC and has engaged in several high-level meetings, including discussions involving Lagos State Head of Service, Bode Agoro.
The government reiterated its commitment to continued dialogue and peaceful resolution, maintaining that all parties had previously agreed to avoid actions that could destabilize academic and industrial harmony at the institution.
