Rishi Sunak was born on 12 May 1980 in Southampton General Hospital, Hampshire, England to his parents Yashvir and Usha Sunak. He attended Stroud School for his primary school education and later Winchester College, where he became head boy. During his summer breaks, he worked as a waiter in a curry house in Southampton. 

Sunak pursued philosophy, politics, and economics at Lincoln College, Oxford, graduating with a first-class degree in 2001. He interned at Conservative Campaign Headquarters and joined the Conservative Party during his university days. In 2006, he earned an MBA from Stanford University as a Fulbright Scholar, where he met his future wife, Akshata Murty.

Rishi Sunak began his career as an analyst at Goldman Sachs before moving on to work for hedge funds, where he eventually became a partner. During this time, he also served as a director of an investment firm owned by his father-in-law, N. R. Narayana Murthy.
