Early Life

Brown was born in Marbella, Málaga, Spain, on February 19, 2004. She is the third child out of four born to Kelly and Robert Brown, who are British parents.

Her father, an estate agent, gave her the nickname “Bobby.” Unfortunately, she was born with partial hearing loss in her left ear, which eventually led to complete hearing loss in that ear over a period of several years.

At the age of four, she relocated with her family to England and settled in Bournemouth. Later, when she turned eight, the family moved again, this time to Orlando, Florida.

Career

In 2013, Brown made her debut as an actress in the ABC fantasy drama series Once Upon a Time in Wonderland, which is a spin-off of Once Upon a Time. She portrayed the character of Young Alice.

The following year, she had a prominent role in the BBC America paranormal drama-thriller series Intruders, playing the character of Madison O’Donnell.

Additionally, she made guest appearances in popular shows such as NCIS, Modern Family, and Grey’s Anatomy.

In 2016, Brown was chosen to portray the character Eleven in the Netflix science fiction horror series Stranger Things. Her performance received high acclaim from critics, leading to her nomination for the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Drama Series and the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series.

Furthermore, she won the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series alongside her co-stars. Brown’s exceptional portrayal also earned her the 43rd Saturn Award for Best Performance by a Younger Actor in a Television Series.

In the second season of Stranger Things, Brown reprised her role as Eleven and once again garnered recognition for her outstanding performance. She received her second nominations for both the Screen Actors Guild Award and the Primetime Emmy Award in 2018.

She was selected to lend her voice to the virtual reality experience Spheres: Songs of Spacetime, produced by Darren Aronofsky.

Time magazine recognized her as one of the 100 most influential people in the world in 2018, making her the youngest person ever to be included in the prestigious list.

Additionally, Time magazine named her one of the most influential teenagers in both 2017 and 2018. In the same year, she achieved the distinction of being the youngest UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador ever appointed.

EA Games announced a collaboration with Brown, where she worked with The Sims 4 programmers to create the Sims 4 Positivity Challenge. The Hollywood Reporter ranked her among the top thirty stars under the age of eighteen in 2018.

Brown made her debut in feature films in 2019, appearing in Godzilla: King of the Monsters, the sequel to the 2014 film Godzilla. She reprised her role in the subsequent sequel, Godzilla vs. Kong (2021).

She also became the ambassador for UEFA’s Together #WePlayStrong campaign. In 2019, Brown launched her own beauty product line called Florence by Mills, which is available at UK pharmacy Boots, Walmart in the United States, and Shoppers Drug Mart in Canada. In 2020, she starred in and produced the film adaptation of The Enola Holmes Mysteries.

In 2022, Brown returned to portray Enola Holmes in the sequel, Enola Holmes 2, and according to Variety, she earned $10 million for the role, establishing herself as one of the highest-paid actresses in Hollywood that year. Additionally, she was appointed as an ambassador for the fashion brand Louis Vuitton.

Brown ventured into writing and released her debut novel, Nineteen Steps, in September 2023. The book is a historical fiction based on her own family history and is described as an “epic story of love, loss, and secrets.”

Next, Brown will star in and executive produce the fantasy film Damsel for Netflix, under the direction of Spanish filmmaker Juan Carlos Fresnadillo, based on a screenplay by Dan Mazeau.[46] She will also appear in The Electric State, an adaptation of Simon Stålenhag’s graphic novel of the same name, directed by the Russo brothers.

Personal Life

Brown rose to prominence at the age of 12 when she was cast in the popular series Stranger Things. However, at the age of 14, she faced a distressing situation when homophobic quotes, falsely attributed to her, started circulating on social media in the form of memes. This incident, along with other instances of online bullying and sexualization, led Brown to eventually quit Twitter.

In a 2020 Instagram post on her 16th birthday, she expressed her frustration with the inaccuracies, inappropriate comments, sexualization, and unnecessary insults that had caused her pain and insecurity.

Unfortunately, even after turning 18 in February 2022, Brown’s social media profiles continued to be inundated with sexually explicit content from users. Despite these challenges, Brown has found happiness in her personal life.

Since 2021, she has been in a relationship with actor Jake Bongiovi, and in April 2023, they announced their engagement.

While navigating the ups and downs of fame, Brown has also prioritized her education. As of August 2022, she is an online student at Purdue University in Indiana, where she is studying health and human services.

Beyond her acting career and academic pursuits, Brown is an animal lover and proud pet owner.

She has a total of ten pets, including four dogs, two cats, two tortoises named Becky and David, a rabbit named Eeyore, and a donkey named Bernard.

Her dogs, Winnie, Marley, Pepperoni, and Luna, bring joy to her life. Sadly, she lost her English Mastiff, Dolly, in 2020. Brown actively promotes the adoption of cats and dogs by sharing photos of fostered animals on social media.

In May 2023, Brown made an exciting announcement about her partnership with Kanine Group subsidiary, Kanine Pets World Limited.

This long-term agreement focuses on pet apparel and accessories and was negotiated by Brown’s global licensing partner, IMG.
