As of March 30, 2024, she has 93.9 million followers on TikTok, ranking as the third most-followed individual on the platform behind Khaby Lame and Charli D’Amelio. She signed a music record deal with Warner Records in 2021.

Early Life

Poarch was born in the Philippines on February 8, 1997. Raised by her grandmother in the slums until the age of three, she was then adopted by an American father who had served in the US military and a Filipina mother.

Her adoptive parents met in Saudi Arabia, where her father was stationed, before settling in the Philippines.

In an interview, she revealed that she and her adopted brother endured severe abuse throughout her childhood, until she joined the military.

Living on a farm with her adoptive family, which included her parents and three adopted siblings, she took on many responsibilities from a young age.

Poarch mentioned that her adoptive sisters did not face the same mistreatment as her and her brother.

She described her father as verbally and physically abusive, while her mother remained complicit.

The family, except for her sisters who stayed in the Philippines, moved to San Francisco to live with her aunt temporarily before relocating to Texas when she was 13 due to her father’s health issues.

Despite no longer experiencing physical abuse, she stated that her father continued to emotionally mistreat her at home.

Musical Career

In January 2020, Poarch established her TikTok account, marking the beginning of her journey on the platform. It wasn’t until April 2020 that she started actively sharing gaming and cosplay content on TikTok.

However, it was in August 2020 that she truly gained recognition when her lip sync videos went viral, particularly the one where she lip-synced to “Sophie Aspin Send” by Millie B.

This video, featuring a close-up of her lip-syncing and bouncing in sync with the rhythm, became TikTok’s most liked video of all time, catapulting her into the spotlight.

Capitalizing on her TikTok success, she later launched a YouTube channel and Twitter page.

Aside from her TikTok fame, Poarch is also known for her association with her alpaca stuffed toy.

In 2020, she even released a limited clothing line collaboration called RIPNDIP x Paca.

December 2020 marked a significant milestone in Poarch’s rising popularity, as she caught the attention of two prominent professional Esports organizations, namely 100 Thieves and FaZe Clan.

Both organizations expressed interest in her as a content creator, given her background as a live streamer and gamer. This further solidified her status as a rising star.

In May 2021, Poarch signed a record deal with Warner Records, further expanding her horizons.

On May 14, 2021, Poarch released her debut single “Build a Bitch,” a song inspired by her personal experiences with bullying during her childhood.

She aimed to create a meaningful song that would empower and boost the confidence of her listeners.

The accompanying music video, described by Billboard as a bold and darkly comedic piece of contemporary pop, was created in collaboration with producer-songwriter Daniel Virgil Maisonneuve, also known as Sub Urban.

The video featured several notable internet personalities, including Valkyrae, Mia Khalifa, Bretman Rock, and ZHC.

During an episode of the 100 Thieves podcast “The CouRage and Nadeshot Show,” Poarch revealed that her dream of becoming a singer had been with her since childhood.

Her journey from TikTok sensation to a budding music artist is a testament to her determination and passion for her craft.

Poarch released her first EP, Dolls, on August 12, 2022. It includes her previous singles, “Build a Bitch,” “Inferno,” and “Dolls,” as well as new tracks “Villain,” “No Man’s Land,” and “Living Hell.”

A music video for “Living Hell” debuted alongside the EP. In addition to co-starring in the music video for “Dolls,” Grimes features on “No Man’s Land.” Rolling Stone praised the dark pop tone of the EP.

In addition, “Villain” would be used for WWE’s Extreme Rules premium live event in 2022. She released a song and music video with Lauv on September 15, 2023 titled “Crush.”

Military Career

Poarch is a U.S. Navy veteran. She enlisted in the Navy in 2017 as an aviation ordnanceman. She served for three years, having been stationed in Japan and Hawaii.

Personal Life

Poarch, a resident of Los Angeles, has shown her support for the Asian-American community on social media in response to the increasing number of hate crimes against them.

In an interview with Vogue, she opened up about her own experiences, revealing that she has personally faced discrimination and been subjected to random attacks as an Asian teenager after relocating to the U.S. from the Philippines.

During September 2020, Poarch faced criticism from Korean social media users for featuring a tattoo in her videos that resembled the Rising Sun Flag, a symbol associated with Japanese imperialism and considered offensive to East Asians.

She promptly apologized, covered the tattoo, and eventually had it removed.

In 2019, Poarch tied the knot with her fellow seaman, Tyler Poarch. However, she filed for divorce from him in November 2022.

In August 2021, Poarch bravely shared that she had been a victim of sexual assault.
