Piers Morgan slams Ten Hag after he admitted Ronaldo wasn’t problem at Man United

English broadcaster Piers Morgan has taken aim at former Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag after the Dutchman admitted that Cristiano Ronaldo was never the problem during his time at Old Trafford.

Morgan said that Ten Hag’s confession proves the Dutch manager himself was the issue at the club.

Ronaldo returned to Manchester United in 2021 after spells at Real Madrid and Juventus, enjoying a strong season under Ole Gunnar Solskjær. However, when Ten Hag replaced Solskjær ahead of the 2022-23 season, he deemed Ronaldo less important to his plans.

The Portuguese star eventually had his contract mutually terminated before making a move to Saudi Arabia. In Ten Hag’s time in charge, he secured the Carabao Cup and FA Cup, but was ultimately dismissed on October 24, 2024.

Now at the helm of Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen, Ten Hag saw his team fall to a 2-0 defeat against Chelsea in a pre-season friendly on August 8.

Following the match, the Dutchman was asked whether Ronaldo had been a problem at Manchester United. As quoted by ESPN, he said, “For me he’s [Ronaldo] no problem. He was never the problem and I think that’s the past…”

Piers Morgan wasted no time in responding, posting on X: “We know. YOU were the problem.”
