He went on to release several mixtapes, including CTV2 (2014), before dropping his debut studio album, Syre (2017), following three years of hard work.

Early Life

Jaden Christopher Syre Smith, born on July 8, 1998, in Malibu, California, is the son of renowned actors Jada Pinkett Smith and Will Smith.

He has an older half-brother named Trey Smith, born in 1992, and a younger sister named Willow Smith, born in 2000.

Initially, he attended New Village Leadership Academy but later received homeschooling from his parents.

Due to his and his family’s fame, he was unable to experience a typical childhood, a topic he has openly discussed. Additionally, he developed an interest in skateboarding.

Smith and his siblings actively served as youth ambassadors for Project Zambi, a collaborative effort between Hasbro and the organization aimed at assisting Zambian children who have been orphaned due to AIDS.

Career

Smith made his debut in the 2006 film The Pursuit of Happyness, playing the role of Christopher, the son of Chris Gardner, portrayed by Will Smith.

He received the Breakthrough Performance award at the 2007 MTV Movie Awards for his performance.

In 2008, he appeared as Jacob in the science fiction film The Day the Earth Stood Still, directed by Scott Derrickson. This film was a remake of the 1951 classic with the same title.

In 2010, Smith starred alongside Jackie Chan in The Karate Kid, a remake of the 1984 film.

He then acted alongside his father in After Earth, released in May 2013. The father-son duo also announced their return for the sequel Karate Kid 2 in 2014, which would be directed by Breck Eisner and written by Zak Penn.

In April 2014, Smith was cast in The Good Lord Bird, a film adaptation of James McBride’s novel.

He portrayed the character of Henry Shackleford, a young slave in Kansas Territory in 1857 who crosses paths with abolitionist John Brown.

After taking a break from acting to focus on music, Smith returned to the screen in 2017 with a role in the Netflix original series The Get Down.

He also lent his voice to the animated series Neo Yokio and made a guest appearance as himself in the TV show Nashville.

Smith explained his break from acting by stating that he was waiting for the right roles to come along.

He recently announced his return to films with a skateboarding-themed project, which was released as Crystal Moselle’s Skate Kitchen in 2018.

The film received positive reviews after its premiere at Sundance in 2017. In 2020, Smith starred in the romantic drama Life in a Year alongside Cara Delevingne, receiving favorable feedback.

In 2010, Smith collaborated with Canadian singer Justin Bieber on the track “Never Say Never”. The song reached No. 8 on the Billboard Hot 100 and achieved 5× Platinum certification in the US.

On October 1, 2012, Smith dropped his first mixtape, The Cool Cafe. He followed it up with the release of CTV2 on November 8, 2014.

Smith began working on his debut studio album in 2014, a process that spanned three years. He revealed in December 2016 that the album would be titled Syre.

The lead single, “Fallen”, was released on December 5, 2016, followed by “Batman” and “Watch Me” on July 14, 2017, and “Falcon” on November 16.

Syre was officially released on November 17, 2017, entering the US Billboard 200 at #24. The single “Icon” also debuted on the same day, reaching No. 3 on the Bubbling Under Hot 100 Singles chart.

Following Syre, Smith announced his next project, Erys, on December 14, 2017. He also teased Syre: The Electric Album on Twitter.

Prior to the project’s release, Smith dropped the single “Ghost” featuring Christian Rich.

On his 20th birthday, July 8, 2018, Smith exclusively released Syre: The Electric Album on Instagram, later making it available on streaming platforms four days later.

The album is a guitar-focused reimagining of Syre, influenced by Jimi Hendrix and The Beatles’ Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band.

Less than a year later, on July 5, 2019, Smith released his second studio album, Erys, which debuted at number 12 on the US Billboard 200.

On July 30, 2018, Smith was revealed as an opening act for J. Cole’s KOD Tour, performing alongside Young Thug and EarthGang.

He then made his debut at Lollapalooza on August 2. Kid Cudi, one of Smith’s influences, expressed interest in collaborating on an album with Smith, a sentiment that Smith reciprocated during an interview on August 21, 2018.

Jaden was under the management of Will Smith’s company, Westbrook Entertainment, until March 2019 when Three Six Zero took over.

On July 24, 2020, Smith dropped the single “Cabin Fever” from his third album CTV3: Cool Tape Vol. 3, which he described as the conclusion to the previous Cool tapes trilogy, as well as a continuation of the Syre and Erys trilogies.

The album features a collaboration with Justin Bieber on the track “Falling for You”. Jaden released the single “BYE” on June 21, 2021, and on August 27, 2021, he launched a new version of the album CTV3: Day Tripper’s Edition on all major streaming platforms.

Personal Life

Will Smith, the father of Jaden Smith, disclosed that his son pursued emancipation without his parents’ consent as a gift for his 15th birthday.

Will informed the media that Jaden’s main motivation was to establish his own residence.

He further clarified that their parenting style did not involve strict discipline, stating, “We generally do not believe in punishment.

Since Jaden was a young child, we would have discussions with him, and all he had to do was justify why his actions were beneficial for his life.”

However, on May 15, 2013, Smith and his father made a joint appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, during which Jaden expressed his thoughts.

The thing that people don’t get is everything at his house is free. So I can get anything and everything at his house, so I’m going to be there for 20, 30 more years. He [Will Smith] says that as soon as I have a movie that’s bigger than one of his movies I can get my own house.

In June 2017, Smith relocated from his parents’ residence to a lavish $4 million abode situated in Hidden Hills.

Smith actively engages in promoting various conspiracy theories through his Twitter account, including the Illuminati and chemtrails.

Back in 2013, Smith expressed his disapproval of traditional education and advised individuals to consider dropping out of school.

When discussing teenagers attending public schools, he remarked, “Adolescents who attend regular schools exhibit such typical teenage behavior and angst.”

From 2015 to 2017, Smith was romantically involved with Sarah Snyder.

Snyder served as the muse for several tracks on Smith’s debut album, Syre.

Smith adheres to a vegetarian diet.

He even initiated a mobile restaurant that offers complimentary vegan dinners to the homeless, while others are required to pay.

However, his parents intervened due to a significant decline in his health, which was later attributed to lactose intolerance and celiac disease. Consequently, he reverted to being a vegetarian.

Since November 2018, Smith has made claims that rapper Tyler, the Creator is his boyfriend.

However, Tyler, who identifies as bisexual, has refuted these assertions.

In the song “NOIZE” from his 2019 album Erys, Tyler sarcastically revealed the nature of their relationship claims while rapping.

Smith has been recognized as a trailblazer in popular media for challenging traditional gender norms.

He is often spotted in gender-fluid attire, including dresses, skirts, and high-heels.

In a 2016 editorial for Vogue Korea, he donned traditionally female clothing such as a black skirt, blue nail polish, and a flower in his hair.

Smith has been vocal about his fashion choices, stating, “If I Wanna Wear A Dress, Then I Will, And That Will Set The New Wave…”.

He has also mentioned that wearing skirts is a way to support children who are victims of bullying in schools.

In 2023, Smith became the target of an online death hoax, with false claims circulating on Facebook and YouTube about his passing.

Social media posts alleged that Will Smith had publicly declared the death of his son, leading to confusion among fans who searched for information on Jaden’s well-being.

Many of the misleading posts incorrectly stated that Jaden was only 15 years old.
