Orton was born in Knoxville, Tennessee on April 1, 1980. He is the eldest of two siblings, Becky and Nathan, and the son of Elaine and “Cowboy” Bob Orton.

Despite his parents’ warnings about the challenges of a career in professional wrestling, Orton pursued his passion. He attended Hazelwood Central High School, where he excelled as an amateur wrestler.

Upon graduating in 1998, Orton joined the United States Marine Corps but was dishonorably discharged a year later for going AWOL and disobeying orders.

As a result, Private First Class Orton faced a special court-martial and spent thirty-eight days in a military prison.

At 24 years old, Orton made history by becoming the youngest world champion in WWE when he claimed the World Heavyweight Championship.

Following this victory, he left Evolution and began a rivalry with his former stablemates. Orton later teamed up with Edge to form Rated-RKO, winning the World Tag Team Championship together.

After Rated-RKO split in 2007, Orton achieved two WWE Championship reigns in a single night, making him the second youngest two-time WWE Champion at 27.

He then formed The Legacy with Cody Rhodes and Ted DiBiase Jr. in 2008, but the group disbanded in 2010, leading Orton back to singles competition. Between 2013 and 2015, he was associated with The Authority, who dubbed him the “face of the WWE”.

In 2016, Orton became a member of The Wyatt Family, capturing the SmackDown Tag Team Championship with Bray Wyatt and Luke Harper before betraying them in 2017.

Orton secured his first United States Championship in 2018, solidifying his status as the 18th Grand Slam Champion and the 17th Triple Crown Champion.

Orton’s initial appearance on WWE television was on SmackDown! on April 25, 2002, where he faced Hardcore Holly in his first televised match.

Following this, Orton transitioned into a fan-favorite character and engaged in a series of matches against Holly.

In September 2002, Orton was drafted to the Raw brand and made his debut by defeating Stevie Richards.

However, shortly after his debut, Orton suffered a shoulder injury that kept him out of action for several months. Despite his injury, Orton continued to make appearances on Raw through his “Randy News Network” segment, where he discussed his condition.

This segment often interrupted other parts of the show, leading Orton to gradually adopt a narcissistic and self-centered persona as a villain.

Once Orton had recovered from his injury, he joined the group known as Evolution, which included Ric Flair, Triple H, and the newcomer Batista.

From 2003 to 2004, Evolution dominated the Raw brand, particularly after Armageddon in 2003 when all the men’s titles on Raw were held by the group’s members.

During this time, Orton played a significant role in assisting Triple H in overcoming challenges from Scott Steiner and Goldberg, both former WCW superstars who were vying for the World Heavyweight Championship.

Orton even participated in a six-man Elimination Chamber match at SummerSlam to ensure Triple H’s title defense.

Following these events, Orton adopted the moniker of “The Legend Killer,” portraying himself as a young and exceptionally talented wrestler who believed he represented the future of the industry.

He engaged in various storyline feuds with established “legendary” wrestlers and gained notoriety for his blatant disrespect towards these respected figures in wrestling history.

Orton’s first notable victory came against Shawn Michaels at Unforgiven, marking the beginning of a series of high-profile matches billed as “Legend versus Legend Killer.”

With the assistance of his mentor Ric Flair, Orton defeated Michaels. In a shocking display, Orton even spat in the face of Harley Race during an episode of Raw on April 26, 2004.

Orton made his comeback from injury on the November 20, 2023 episode of Raw, following an 18-month absence.

He announced his return at Survivor Series: WarGames on November 25 as part of Cody Rhodes’ team, alongside Jey Uso, Sami Zayn, and Seth Rollins, in a WarGames match against Drew McIntyre and The Judgment Day.

Orton entered the match last and emerged victorious with his team. Subsequently, on the December 1 episode of SmackDown, Orton was declared a free agent.

After an attack by The Bloodline, he signed with SmackDown. Orton sought revenge on The Bloodline in the following weeks, defeating Solo Sikoa and Jimmy Uso in separate matches.

However, at the Royal Rumble on January 27, 2024, Orton was unsuccessful in capturing the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship in a fatal four-way match against Roman Reigns, AJ Styles, and LA Knight.

In a different turn of events, Orton secured a spot in the men’s Elimination Chamber match at Elimination Chamber: Perth by defeating Sami Zayn on the February 9 episode of SmackDown.

Despite his efforts, Orton was unable to emerge victorious in the Elimination Chamber match, being eliminated last by Drew McIntyre due to interference from Logan Paul.

Randy Orton Acting Career

A former Marine, Orton was initially cast to play the lead role in the action movie The Marine 2 (2009).

However, he had to step down from the project due to a collarbone injury, and was replaced by Ted DiBiase. In 2011, he took on a supporting role as the father of a school bully in the comedy-drama film That’s What I Am.

Orton was set to star in the action film The Marine 3: Homefront in 2013, but was replaced by The Miz because of his controversial military background. Despite these setbacks, he went on to star in action films like 12 Rounds 2: Reloaded (2013) and The Condemned 2 (2015).

Additionally, he made a guest appearance as James Richards, a former Navy SEAL and leader of a militia group, in an episode of the USA action series Shooter in December 2016.

Orton also had supporting roles in the comedy-drama film Changeland (2019) and the romantic comedy film Long Shot (2019).

Randy Orton Personal Life

Orton tied the knot with Samantha Speno on September 21, 2007, and they welcomed a daughter before parting ways in late 2012 and finalizing their divorce in June 2013.

Subsequently, Orton exchanged vows with Kimberly Kessler, a former member of his fan club, on November 14, 2015.

They share a daughter, making her Orton’s second child and Kessler’s fourth. Additionally, Orton has taken on the role of step-father to Kessler’s three sons from her previous marriage.

The family currently resides in St. Charles, Missouri.
