Yesufu made the statement in a post shared on her official X (formerly Twitter) handle, recalling conversations she had with Obi during the 2022 campaign season ahead of the 2023 general elections.
“I, Aisha Yesufu, can confirm that Mr. Peter Gregory Obi has always said he would do just a term even before the 2023 election,” she wrote.
She noted that she often challenged Obi on his one-term stance, arguing that Nigerians would demand more from him if he performed well.
“Infact I told him on several occasions while we were campaigning in 2022 that the people will not allow him to do just a term. He would use Nelson Mandela as example.”
According to her, Obi maintained that if a leader was truly committed to working, one term was more than enough to make a meaningful impact.
Yesufu said she asked for public permission to speak about his one-term promise, emphasizing that her integrity was at stake.
“Mr. Peter Obi once again gave me his word that he was going to do only one term,” she affirmed.
Peter Obi’s one-term pledge has been a topic of interest among political observers and supporters, with some calling for a more extended leadership tenure should he contest and win in future elections.
