Early life
Career
Min began her career at SM Entertainment in 2002 as a graphic designer and quickly rose through the ranks to become the creative director.
She played a pivotal role in shaping the visual branding of popular groups like Girls’ Generation, Shinee, f(x), Exo, and Red Velvet.
Her responsibilities included overseeing the creation of album artwork, costumes, and music videos, as well as developing the artists’ brand identity through various means.
Min’s innovative and experimental approach to art direction garnered attention and set her apart from the traditional style of first-generation K-pop idols.
She is particularly recognized for her contributions to f(x)’s acclaimed album “Pink Tape” in 2013.
In 2017, Min joined SM’s board of directors but eventually left the company at the end of 2018 due to burnout.
In 2019, Min joined Hybe Corporation as the chief brand officer and played a crucial role in the company’s rebranding efforts.
She later became the CEO of Hybe’s subsidiary, ADOR (All Doors One Room), in November 2021.
Min expressed her commitment to embracing new challenges and creating artist intellectual property and content that embodies ADOR’s unique philosophy.
Under her leadership, the label introduced its first girl group, NewJeans, in July 2022.
Min spearheaded their creative direction and development, culminating in the release of their debut self-titled extended play on August 1.
In recognition of her contributions, Min was honored with the Seoul City Culture Award by the Seoul Metropolitan Government in 2023 for her outstanding work with NewJeans.
Controversies
Allegations of Pedophilia
Online users have accused Min of sharing and supporting pedophilic content, such as the poster of the 1974 film I’ll Take Her Like a Father, on her social media account, and incorporating a Lolita-inspired concept in her projects with f(x) and NewJeans, among others.
In response, ADOR has announced that they have taken legal action against these allegations.
Conflict with Hybe
On April 22, 2024, Hybe Corporation demanded the resignation of Min as the CEO of ADOR following an internal audit conducted in light of allegations that Min and another management official were trying to establish ADOR as an independent entity.
In reply, Min released a public statement refuting these claims, stating that it would be impossible for her to do so without Hybe Corporation’s consent.
Min mentioned that she was asked to step down due to her concerns that Hybe Corporation and its subsidiary label, Belift Lab, were overlooking the creative similarities between NewJeans and Illit, who debuted in March 2024 under Belift Lab.
She argued that Hybe and Belift had not addressed accusations of Illit copying NewJeans’ unique image, from their music style to their fashion.
As a result, Hybe Corporation’s stock value dropped by 8.03%. Min held an urgent press conference on April 25, 2024, accompanied by two lawyers, to address the allegations raised.
