Game Of Thrones’ Sansa Actor Sophie Turner Reveals Conditions For Franchise Return: “That Would Just Be Season 9”
Sansa Stark actor Sophie Turner addresses the conditions for her to return to the Game of Thrones franchise. The actor has played Sansa since season 1. From a young, innocent girl who wants to be queen one day, Sansa survives the War of the Five Kings and becomes a prominent figure in the final episodes. At the end of Game of Thrones season 8, the eldest Stark daughter is crowned Queen of the North, where she rules the entire northern area from Winterfell.
In a recent interview with Variety, Turner spoke about the possibility of returning as Sansa Stark. The star doesn’t rule out the possibility and expressed that she loved playing the character. She even stated that she had wondered about Sansa’s life since the series finale. However, she stressed she wants the same cast and crew as part of her return condition, saying that “that would just be Season 9, and I don’t think we’re going to do a Season 9.” Read her full quote below:
Maybe. I mean, it would have to be the exact same cast and the exact same crew otherwise I wouldn’t go back and that would just be Season 9, and I don’t think we’re going to do a Season 9, but, I mean, I loved playing Sansa, and I do wonder often what would she be doing now. Where would she be five years later, what would she be doing? Would she still be queen in the North? Would she be a good ruler? Would there be some other kind of terrible war that’s happened? I’d love to see it.
Turner spent ten years of her life portraying Sansa Stark, and the end of Game of Thrones has left her character in a good spot. Previously, the actor mentioned that though she had no interest in a Sansa spinoff, she would return for a Stark sisters spinoff if Arya Stark actor Maisie Williams is on board. Turner’s new comment undoubtedly has made her return to the Westeros world more likely if a sequel is ever in discussion.
There is no Game of Thrones sequel in the works at the moment.
On the other hand, franchises like Bosch and Criminal Minds have enjoyed a reboot even years after the original series concluded. It is becoming more common in recent years for the entire original cast to return. Even though Sophie Turner’s condition sounds very unlikely now, there is a chance for Game of Thrones to come back even if it’s not necessarily season 9. However, with the Jon Snow spin-off officially canceled, there is no Game of Thrones sequel in the works at the moment.
