The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has issued an official statement concerning an incident that occurred on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, at the domestic terminal of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, involving legendary Fuji musician King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal (K1 De Ultimate) and a pilot of ValueJet Airlines.
According to the press release signed by Mrs. Obiageli Orah, FAANโs Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, preliminary investigations revealed that K1 De Ultimate was scheduled to board ValueJet Flight VK 201 to Lagos when he attempted to bring an unidentified liquid substance onboard, despite repeated warnings from Aviation Security (AVSEC) personnel and the Flight Captain.
Violation of International Aviation Regulations
FAAN clarified that under international aviation security standards โ including Nigeriaโs National Civil Aviation Security Programme (NCASP) and ICAO Annex 17 โ passengers are not permitted to carry liquids exceeding 100ml unless declared and cleared through proper medical channels.
Despite being informed of the rule, the passenger reportedly declined to comply.
Escalation and Alleged Confrontation
As boarding continued, a security officer asked the musician to step aside for clarification. The statement says he refused and allegedly spilled the contents of the flask on the officer, later found to contain alcohol. The flight captain reportedly intervened but encountered resistance.
The captain, after confirming boarding was complete, ordered the aircraft door to be shut. K1 De Ultimate then moved to the front of the aircraft and refused to leave the area, prompting AVSECโs crime unit to escort him away for further investigation. He was later released.
FAANโs Firm Response
FAAN emphasized its zero-tolerance policy toward actions that compromise safety or aviation regulations. The Authority pledged that anyone found culpable will be held accountable according to the law.
โFAAN reiterates its unwavering commitment to the safety and security of all passengers, crew, and airport personnel,โ the statement read.
It concluded by assuring the public that the matter remains under investigation and that all Nigerian airports will continue to uphold the highest standards of professionalism and regulatory compliance.
