Early Life
Stokes came into the world in Annapolis, Maryland, as the sole offspring of Jeff Stokes and Jennifer Canning. When he was just a few months old, his parents went through a divorce.
Consequently, Stokes relocated with his mother to Canton, Georgia, and later settled in Orlando, Florida during his teenage years, where he enrolled at Timber Creek High School.
He pursued his higher education at Valencia College, earning a bachelor’s degree, and subsequently pursued further studies at the University of Central Florida and Seminole State College.
Throughout his upbringing, he harbored aspirations of becoming a professional ice hockey player.
Career
Stokes began his acting career with minor roles in television shows such as Stranger Things, Daytime Divas, and Tell Me Your Secrets.
Initially, he declined an audition for Outer Banks in February 2019 but eventually read for the roles of Topper and later John B. The first season of Outer Banks received positive reviews upon its release on April 15, 2020, with a second season confirmed in July of the same year.
In September 2020, Stokes appeared alongside Madelyn Cline in the music video for Kygo and Donna Summer’s single “Hot Stuff.” He was set to play TJ in One Of Us Is Lying, but due to scheduling conflicts with the second season of Outer Banks, he had to step down from the role after filming the pilot in 2019.
Stokes was cast in The Uglies, a dystopian fantasy film based on Scott Westerfeld’s novel, in October 2021. The film, set to be released by Netflix, finished production in December 2021. He also landed a role in the film Music Got Me Here, based on the life of music therapist Tom Sweitzer, in June 2022.
In August 2022, Stokes was announced to star in the military thriller film Valiant One, which completed production in late October 2022. Finally, in January 2023, it was revealed that Stokes had been cast in Marked Men, a young-adult romance film based on Jay Crownover’s book Rule, where he will portray the lead male character, Rule Archer.
Personal Life
In June of 2020, Stokes revealed that he was dating his co-star from Outer Banks, Madelyn Cline. The pair ended their relationship in October of 2021. Stokes has been romantically involved with country singer Kelsea Ballerini since January of 2023.
