Before 2026 JAMB registration begins, get these 9 things ready

โ€Ž โ€Ž โ€Ž

The 2026 UTME/DE registration is expected to begin thisย January. As preparations continue, JAMB has released preliminary guidelines for candidates ahead of the registration exercise.

The process is expected to follow a similar pattern to last year, with one notable update:ย Candidates will be required to declare their current admission status during registration; whether or not they are already enrolled in a tertiary institution.

1.ย Get Your National Identification Number (NIN)

The National Identification Number (NIN) remains a compulsory requirement for all UTME/DE candidates. Candidates who do not yet have a NIN should visit an approved NIMC enrolment centre without delay to register.ย Weโ€™ve previously shared a step-by-step guide on how to get your NIN. If you need it, visit this link:ย NIN Application Guidelinesย for detailed instructions.

2.ย Ensure You Have a Registered Phone Number for Profile Code Creation

Before registering, you will need to generate a profile code by sending your NIN via a registered phone number to a shortcode provided by JAMB. Make sure you have a valid, registered phone numberย for this process. All future SMS updates from JAMB will be sent to this number, so ensure it’s your personal number or a phone number you easily have access to. Check this link:ย Generate your 2026 JAMB registration profile codeย for detailed instructions on how to generate your profile code.

3.ย Set Up a Free Email Address

Your email address serves as a backup for your JAMB profile in case you lose access to your phone number.ย It is mandatoryย to provide an email address during registration. Setting up an email is quick and free. We recommend using Gmail, which can be easily accessed atย gmail.com.

4.ย Decide on the Course You Want to Study

This is the best time to choose the course you want to pursue. This decision requires thoughtful consideration, so donโ€™t wait until the registration begins. Choose a course you are passionate about and have the academic aptitude for. Be sure to have a second-choice course in mind, as this can improve your chances of admission, and you’ll be required to fill it up during registration.

5.ย Choose the School You Want to Apply, and study your course in

Similarly, decide which school you intend to apply to before registration begins. Consider factors such as whether the institution offers your desired course, the admission requirements, school fees, and location. For a higher chance of success, consider having a backup option such as a polytechnic or college of education because they will be required while filling your JAMB registration form. To learn more about this, readย 5 things UTME candidates should consider before choosing an institution.

6.ย Know Your Subject Combination

Each course has a specific set of subjects required for admission. It’s essential to select the correct subject combination for your chosen course and institution. Many students make the mistake of choosing the wrong subjects, which can jeopardize their chances of admission. Use theย JAMB Brochureย to verify the correct subject combination before registration begins.

7.ย Seek Guidance if Needed

If you are unsure about your choice of course, institution, or subject combination, donโ€™t hesitate to ask for guidance. You can use the “Ask a Question” section on our website or mobile app/computer software, where a community of experts will provide helpful answers.

8.ย Get familiar with the Registration Guidelines

The registration process is basically done in 3 steps namely:

Profile Code Generation โ†’ E-PIN vending from authorised channels e.g. banks โ†’ Registration at JAMB Approved CBT Centre

Important Tips:

  • Correct all issues with your NIN and biodata (name, date of birth, gender, state of origin, etc.) at NIMC and confirm that the changes reflect before registration .
  • Ensure your GSM number and email are unique and functional. They should not be changed, shared, or reused for other candidates.
  • If you have biometric problems during registration, visit the nearest JAMB office. Do not allow any CBT centre to forcefully register you.
  • Ensure that a dual screen is used during registration and confirm that your passport photograph and biometrics are captured correctly. Also ensure you cross-check details and ensure that all information is accurate before final submission by the registrant at the centre.

9.ย Start Preparing for the Exam

Start your study preparations now. Remember, itโ€™s not just about studying hard; itโ€™s about studying smart. Many questions in the UTME are repeated from past exams, so practicing past questions is crucial. You can use theย Myschool JAMB CBT Mobile Appย (for Android) or theย Myschool JAMB CBT Softwareย (for computers), both of which contain over 60,000 past questions and answers. Also, check out theย Myschool CBT Classroomย for more study resources.

For Schools, Institutions, and Tutorial Centers

Now is the time for schools, institutions, and tutorial centers to set up their CBT facilities and becomeย JAMB CBT Agents or Training Centersย to help train students for the upcoming exams. For more information on how to get started,ย click here.

Once UTME registration begins, we will provide detailed, step-by-step instructions to ensure a smooth registration process. Stay tuned and continue your preparations!

Until then, stay prepared and ready for success!
