Angela Okorie Thanks Nigeria Police, Clears Air on Viral Jogging Video

 

Nollywood actress and singer Angela Okorie has expressed gratitude and respect for the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) following public controversy over a viral video showing her jogging in the company of armed police escorts.

The video, widely circulated on social media, sparked debate over the use of state security personnel for what many believed was a personal or promotional activity. In response, the NPF launched an internal investigation, describing the officers’ conduct as “inconsistent with professional standards.”

Taking to Instagram on Tuesday, July 2, Okorie shared a photo of herself along with a heartfelt message to the police and the Nigerian public.

“Happy New Month, Nigeria! Happy New Month, NPF!

I, Angela Okorie, Legit Queen, want to take this opportunity to reassure the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) and the entire Nigerian public of my unwavering respect and high regard for the Nigerian Police,” she wrote.

She went on to defend her relationship with the Force, reminding the public of the 2019 gun attack she survived, where the NPF played a key role in rescuing her and initiating an ongoing investigation.

“Let us not forget: on December 12, 2019, I was shot and attacked, and it was the Nigeria Police Force that rescued me… Since then, the love and support from the NPF has been truly overwhelming and unforgettable.”

She concluded her post with a promise to continue supporting the NPF:

“Thank you Nigeria Police Force for the invite last week and I promise to keep promoting the image and the integrity of our dear NPF! Long live Nigeria! Long live NPF!”

Police Reaction and Public Scrutiny

The Nigerian Police, through spokesperson Olumuyiwa Adejobi, released a statement on June 26 addressing the viral footage. While acknowledging the possibility that the scene could have been from a movie production, Adejobi said the conduct of the officers in the video still fell below expected professional standards.

“Necessary administrative processes have been initiated to identify the officers involved… appropriate disciplinary action will be taken,” the statement read.

The video is believed to have been taken during filming for “Queens of Guns,” an upcoming project Okorie has been actively promoting on social media.

Clarifying Rumors of Arrest

Shortly after the video went viral, rumors swirled online claiming the actress had been arrested. However, Okorie later debunked the reports, posting a video where she clarified:

“I was invited and I went there, you know what I mean…”

She did not provide further details but confirmed her cooperation with the authorities.
