Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has surprised fans with a brand-new look as he prepares for the club’s pre-season return. The 54-year-old Spaniard has ditched his signature clean-shaven appearance in favour of a bold moustache, instantly drawing attention from supporters and the media alike.
Guardiola was spotted publicly rocking the new facial hair just days before Manchester City’s pre-season camp kicks off on July 28. The change marks a significant shift for the usually polished and clean-shaven coach, known for his sharp suits and intense sideline presence.
What’s sparked even more conversation among fans is the uncanny resemblance between Guardiola’s new look and that of television’s beloved coach, Ted Lasso, played by Jason Sudeikis in the Apple TV hit series. Interestingly, Guardiola has previously made a cameo appearance on the show, adding another layer of irony to the comparison.
The moustache quickly went viral online, with fans applauding his bold and stylish transformation. Many have pointed out that this new look is particularly amusing considering a past interview where Guardiola complimented a journalist’s moustache.
In 2021, during an exchange with TNT Sports reporter Fred Caldeira, Guardiola said: “I really like your moustache, Fred. You are so attractive and sexy.”
Now, it seems the coach is taking a page from his own book, embracing the moustache trend with flair. Whether it’s a playful pre-season change or a longer-term style move remains to be seen, but one thing is certain — Pep’s new look has already kicked off the season’s buzz long before the first whistle.
