Selena Gomez is opening up about her early celebrity crushes—and one of them might surprise you. During a candid chat with Colombian superstar Karol G on the latest episode of Complex’s GOAT Talk series, the singer and actress revealed that her first crush was none other than hip-hop icon Ice Cube.
“Can I tell you my first one I had a crush on, Ice Cube?” Selena asked Karol G with a laugh. “I had the biggest crush on him when I was, like, five. It’s so weird, but I just thought he would protect me. I’m only saying it simply based on my childhood.”
While Selena Gomez didn’t clarify whether her feelings were based on Ice Cube’s rap career or his roles in hit comedy films like Barbershop and Are We There Yet?, she made it clear the admiration was rooted in childhood fantasy.
Ice Cube, born O’Shea Jackson, has not publicly responded to Selena’s light-hearted confession.
Elsewhere in the conversation, the Lose You to Love Me star reflected on her musical upbringing, revealing that her father—who worked as a DJ—helped shape her taste in hip-hop, especially Eminem.
“One of mine was Eminem only because I grew up listening to him. My dad was a DJ and he would remix all kinds of songs, and every time it was an Eminem song, I would just get so excited,” she shared.
Now 32, Selena Gomez has come a long way from those childhood crushes. She’s currently engaged to music producer Benny Blanco. The couple recently collaborated on an album titled I Said I Love You First, which dropped in March.
