Trump cuts ties with Elon Musk, issues strong warning to him

‎ ‎

The relationship between President Donald Trump and tech billionaire Elon Musk appears to have completely collapsed — and the political fallout could be seismic.

In a recent interview with *NBC News*, Trump declared that his relationship with the Tesla and SpaceX CEO is “over,” following Musk’s vocal opposition to a sweeping tax and spending bill backed by the president.

When asked whether the friendship was done for good, Trump responded:

“I would assume so, yeah.”

The president, now in his second term, didn’t stop there. He also issued a veiled warning, suggesting there would be “serious consequences” if Musk chose to fund Democratic candidates running against Republicans who support his legislation.

‎ ‎

However, Trump declined to elaborate on what form those consequences might take. He also said he hadn’t discussed launching any kind of investigation into Musk.

“I have no intention of speaking to him,” Trump said, when asked if he would consider reconciling with the billionaire entrepreneur.

Interestingly, the president said he had not considered cancelling existing government contracts with Musk’s businesses, including Starlink satellite internet services and SpaceX rocket launches — both of which have received substantial federal support over the years.

The public feud between the two power players escalated last week when Musk blasted Trump’s new spending proposal as a “disgusting abomination.”

His sharp criticism is said to have thrown a wrench into Congressional efforts to pass the legislation. With only slim Republican majorities in both the House and Senate, every vote is crucial — and Musk’s influence may have swayed some lawmakers.

Though the bill narrowly cleared the House last month, it now faces scrutiny in the Senate, where GOP leaders are weighing potential amendments amid rising tensions.

The showdown between the world’s richest man and one of the world’s most powerful leaders has captivated Washington and may signal deeper divides within the Republican party heading into future elections.
