Angel Reese Names One WNBA Player She Can’t Guard

Angel Reese recently shared her opinion of some the best players and teams in the WNBA, while speaking with former league star Sheryl Swoopes.

Reese welcomed Swoopes on her podcast, “Unapologetically Angel.” She spoke with the WNBA legend about the hardest players to defend in the league, and mentioned there’s no one like A’ja Wilson.

Swoopes asked Reese about her toughest defensive assignment and she gave credit to Wilson. Reese mentioned that Wilson was the only person she couldn’t keep under their scoring average.

Reese explained that it was her goal each and every night to keep the opposing power forward under their scoring average. While she was successful for a majority of the season, that wasn’t the case when the Sky faced the Aces.

“A’ja… The four is the hardest to guard in the league,” Reese said. “I think that’s the toughest position in the league hands down…. I’m trying my best to keep them under their average every time. The only person I haven’t kept under her average, A’ja.”

Wilson recently won the WNBA MVP award. She was the first player in the history of the league to score 1,000 or more points in a single season and finished the year averaging 26.9 points, 11.9 rebounds and 2.6 blocks per game.

Reese may have struggled defending Wilson, but it seems the rest of the league was in the same boat.

The rookie also added two other players that were difficult to defend in her rookie season; New York Liberty forward Breanna Stewart and Minnesota Lynx star Napheesa Collier.

Nevertheless, Reese had a tremendous season herself. She averaged 13.6 points and 13.1 rebounds per game. Before suffering a season-ending wrist injury, Reese led the WNBA in average rebounds while she was active.
